Heads Up, Orange: Amazon Launches Smart Home-Security Camera

Just when you thought Amazon had taken over your life, the mega-company announced this week they will soon be selling new smart security cameras to monitor your home and then store the footage in Amazon's Cloud.

The camera, available Nov. 8,  comes with the essentials for keeping an eye on your home, including access to the last 24 hours of clips. The camera allows for person detection, which captures human activity instead of general motion (like a pet walking), and zones, which lets you monitor certain areas of your home with a motion that you want to be ignored (like a ceiling fan).

The security cams costs begin at $119.99 and go up as you add more cameras.

The subscription services to operate the system comes in various levels including:

  • Basic ($6.99/mo, $69/yr) offers access to the last 7 days of footage for up to 3 cameras
  • Extended ($9.99/mo, $99/yr) offers access to the last 14 days for up to 5 cameras
  • Pro ($19.99/mo, $199/yr) offers access to the last 30 days for up to 10 cameras

Cloud Cam also features two-way audio — using the Cloud Cam App and the device’s built-in microphone, users can tell their dog to stop barking or let their family know where they are or when they are coming home.

The camera will also work hand-in-hand with its new inside home delivery service, Amazon Key, that also kicks off Nov. 8, by allowing deliveries and guests access to your home (in select cities).

Of course, the new camera and Amazon Key will be offered on Amazon.com.
