Fright Nights: Orange County 'Scares' Up Haunted House Thrills

ORANGE COUNTY, N.Y. -- Ready to scream? Orange County is full of ghosts, goblins, ghouls and zombies -- you just have to know your "howling" good time will include some chills and thrills.

The following venues are filled with things that go bump in the night. Just be forewarned: They are not for the faint at heart.

  • Goblin's Hollow, Newburgh: The creatures are out -- out to get you, that is. Previously known as the Terror Dome, this Newburgh spot has been revamped with lots of hair-raising attractions. Get Scared: 84 Lakeside Rd., 845- 476-8267
  • The Forest of Fear, Tuxedo Park: Strange sounds and creepy creatures lurk around every corner at this popular attraction where, on Saturday nights, you may experience long lines. This outdoor attraction is full of audio and visual disturbances, low visibility, strobe lights, fog, damp and/or wet conditions -- not to mention very very scary sights. Get Scared: 600 NY-17A, 845-351-5174
  • Pure Terror Scream Park, Monroe: Be prepared to be scared: This haunted house and trail features 11 frighteningly fun attractions at one location including the kind of dark woods you see in scary movies. Get Scared: 101 Route 17M, 845-391-0071
  • Fright Night at Pierson’s Farm, Middletown: Get your petrifying fun fix at Pierson's where, on Saturday, Oct. 21, Friday Oct. 27 or Saturday, Oct. 28 you can navigate through a small corn maze, into a barn, and then through a graveyard and larger corn maze. The special night event goes from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. A portion of proceeds is given to local charities. Bring a soup kitchen donation for each $2 discount.
