Officers responded to a report of an injured pedestrian in the roadway in the area of Grand Avenue and Park Place at 7:15 a.m. Sunday, Detective Lt. Joseph Burns said in a statement.
They found an elderly male down in the road, injured from an apparent motor vehicle accident, Burns said. The involved motor vehicle had already fled the scene, he said.
The man, identified as City of Newburgh resident Fred Woolsey, was transported by Mobile Life to St. Luke’s Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, Burns said.
Police are investigating and are releasing no further information at this time.
