GOSHEN, N.Y. – It took firefighters nearly two hours to extinguish a four-alarm fire in a barn at the Goshen Historic Track on Wednesday night.
The fire was first reported just before 6:30 p.m., drawing 75 firefighters from 16 different companies. Responders were able to save all of the horses in the barn and no human injuries were reported, the Times Herald-Record reported .
Fire officials said nearly half of the 180-year-old structure had to be demolished because of fire damage. The Harness Racing Museum and Hall of Fame was spared from damage.
Officials are not yet sure what the cause of the fire was, the Record said.
The Historic Track was opened in 1838 and is a National Historic Landmark. It is the oldest continuously operating horse track in North America.
