An outpouring of support from law enforcement agencies and elected officials across the Hudson Valley has been sent to the New York City Police Department following the murder of one of their officers early Wednesday while sitting in her patrol car.

The department announced that Police Officer Miosotis Familia died after being shot by a man who walked up to the car and shot the officer in the head, police said.

Familia, a mother of three, was a 12-year veteran of the 46th Precinct in the Bronx, the department said.

The man who gunned her down was later shot and killed by responding police officers, and a firearm was recovered, NYPD officials said.

"As we mourn the death of our officer, join us in sending her family and loved one's prayers and support," said department officials.

"Death penalty should be on the table for the assassination of police officers like Miosotis Familia, RIP, " tweeted Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino. "God bless her & her family."

Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano tweeted: "NYPD Officer Miosotis Familia, fatally shot last night, leaves behind 3 children. Officer Familia & her family are in our thoughts & prayers"

The Ramapo Police Department posted on Facebook: "The members of the Ramapo Police Department extend our condolences to the family, friends, and coworkers of NYPD PO Miosotis Familia. PO Familia was shot and killed in the line of duty. May she rest in peace"

The Beacon Police Benevolent Association said: "Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Officer Familia and to the NYPD today as they go through another horrible murder of a loved one, a mother, and a police officer."

And the Orangetown Police Department re-posted the NYPD announcement in an offer of support.

The Rockland County Sheriff's Office said: "Our deepest condolences to the family of PO Familia and our brothers and sisters in the NYPD."

Local fire departments also offered their sympathies including the Goldens Bridges fire unit in Lewisboro: "It is with deep sorrow we announce that NYPD Police Officer Miosotis Familia has died after being shot earlier this morning in the line of duty. Officer Familia, a 12-year veteran and assigned to the 46 Precinct in the Bronx, was shot in an unprovoked attack."
