Orange County Voters OK School Budgets, Except In One District

Every school district in Orange County, except one, approved proposed budgets for 2018-19 on Tuesday.

Valley Central Schools encountered the lone loss, where taxpayers voted 987 to 849 against a proposed $104.2 million budget. The school district and Board of Education will now revise the spending proposal for a second vote before resorting to a contingency budget.

In other Orange County school results:

  • Chester School District voters approved a $27.6 million budget.
  • Cornwall School District voters approved a $71.5 million budget. The school district also got the OK to set up a $5 million capital reserve fund.
  • Florida School District voters approved a $21.7 million budget. Florida also got the OK to create a capital reserve fund for an unspecified amount of money.
  • Goshen School District voters approved a $71.3 million budget. Goshen also got the OK to buy eight school buses for $656,248. Voters also gave the district permission to spend nearly $4 million from its capital reserve fund.
  • Greenwood Lake voters approved a $26.6 million school budget. The school district also got the OK to increase its reserve fund by $2.5 million.
  • Highland Falls voters approved a $30.6 million school budget.
  • Kiryas Joel voters approved a nearly $25.7 million school budget.
  • Middletown voters approved a $190 million school budget.
  • Minisink Valley voters approved a nearly $100 million school budget. The district also got the OK to buy 11 school buses for $954,539.
  • Monroe-Woodbury voters approved a school budget of $176.6 million. The school district also got permission to spend $1.1 million to buy 10 buses.
  • Voters in the Newburgh School District approved a budget of $275.4 million as well as the sale of the Washington Street School. More details about those votes can be found by clicking here.
  • Pine Bush voters approved a $116.2 million school budget. Pine Bush also got the OK to create a capital reserve fund. And, the school district wants to spend $7 million on "energy projects."
  • Port Jervis voters approved a school budget totaling $72.2 million.
  • Tuxedo voters approved a school budget of $13.1 million. Tuxedo also got the OK to set up a capital reserve of $250,000 and a "fund repair reserve" of $150,000.
  • Warwick Valley voters approved a school budget of $92.8 million. The school district also got the OK to buy five new buses for $485,000. Finally, the school district got the go-ahead to set up an annual repair reserve of $150,000, capped at a total of $750,000.
  • Washingtonville voters OK'd a school budget of $99.2 million. The school district also got voter approval to buy eight buses for $989,827.
