Mount Peter Ski Area kicked off its 82d season on Saturday, officially opening for 2017-2018. Mount Peter is the longest-running family operated ski slope in the United States with 14 trails on 55 acres.

"We're very excited," Carol Forshay, director of marketing for Mount Peter said.  "It's been nice and brisk."

Mount Peter always opens right before Christmas, as people start to embrace winter.

"Everybody is happy and excited," Forshay said. "We've gotten great reviews."

This year, Mount Peter debuted its new Quad Lift, which allows four people to ride up at a time. Mount Peter is also offering free beginner lessons for people who never thought they would hit the slopes.

"It's a great way to make them feel comfortable," Forshay said.

Mount Peter is typically open until the end of March.
