A registered sex offender who was convicted of having sexual contact with three girls under the age of 11 has reported a move in Orange County.

The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services issued an alert this week to Orange County residents regarding the residency of 37-year-old Geoffrey Peters, who has moved from Ann Street to Grand Street in Newburgh.

The Division of Criminal Justice Services has assigned Peters as a Level 3 threat, which means he is a “high-risk repeat offender and possible threat to public safety.” He has also been designated as a sexually violent sex offender.

According to the Division of Criminal Justice Services, Peters had "immediately and physically overpowered" and threatened his three victims. He had sexual contact with a 7, 9 and 10-year-old girl in September 1999 and was convicted of first-degree sexual abuse in March 2000. Peters was sentenced to a term of between one day and four years in jail and is now under the jurisdiction of the Newburgh City Police Department.

Further info on Peters from the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services can be accessed after entering the code in the CAPTCHA box found by clicking here.
