Suffern Police Department Announces Community Events SUFFERN, N.Y. — The Suffern Police Department announced several upcoming community events during May and June. On June 4, the Suffern Police Benevolent Association and Vincent Crotty Memorial Foundation will host their seventh annual BBQ-Wing Nite at the Mahwah Elks Lodge. All proceeds will go to the Crotty Foundation. Chief Clarke Osborn also announced that he was planning a "Coffee With The Chief" event, where local residents are welcome to discuss issues in a informal setting.

Hastings Celebrates The Season With Spring Thing HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The annual Spring Thing event will take place on Sunday, May 15, in Hastings-On-Hudson from noon to 5 p.m. Plenty of food and games are on the docket, with a cookout handled by the fire department. Besides the food, there will be a bouncy castle and a maker area with students from Hillside and Farragut Middle School and Hastings High School. Live music will run through the entire day, with Zed Woods, Josh Shapiro, Riverrun, Intuition and Deadgrass scheduled to perform. John Jay Soccer Club Supports Goals For Haiti LEWISBORO, N.Y. – John Jay Soccer Club in Lewisboro is once again supporting Goals For Haiti, a non-profit aimed at helping Haitian youth with education, health and development programs. Members of the club will be collecting gently used soccer equipment on Saturday, May 14 from 9 to 11 a.m. at Onatru 6 and from 1 to 4 p.m. at Fox Valley Upper Field. Items needed include cleats (from size 7 to 9), soccer balls (all sizes), goalie gloves, socks, shin guards, soccer shorts, uniforms and goalie apparel, among others. Siwanoy Elementary School Holds District Math Night PELHAM, N.Y. — The Pelham School District hosted a district-wide math night on Monday with games for families and students from kindergarten to fifth-grade at Siwanoy Elementary School. A full house enjoyed the games at the school's gym.

Monroe Police Seek Big Y Shoplifter MONROE, Conn. — The Monroe Police Department is looking for a suspect in a shoplifting that occurred on March 31 at the Big Y market on Route 111. The suspect entered the store around 4 p.m., and loaded various items into his cart, including soda, energy drinks, soap and body wash, police said. He walked out without paying, according to police. Poughkeepsie Police Arrest Four Men, Recover Two Guns POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. — Four men were charged and two guns were recovered after Poughkeepsie police engaged in a foot chase and executed a search warrant in the city on Saturday, according to the Poughkeepsie Journal. Police were called about four men walking up Balding Avenue waving guns and arguing, and arrested two men at the scene and another pair after a brief foot chase, the Journal said. Two more men and a minor were arrested when city police later used a search warrant on a home on Mill Street, reported the Poughkeepsie Journal. Columbia Students Finish Study On Possible Nyack, Tarrytown Ferry Service NYACK, N.Y. — Columbia University graduate students have finished a study on the possibility of restarting ferry service between Nyack and Tarrytown, according to lohud.com. Students from Columbia's Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation completed the study, which found that ferry service would be the most cost-effective way to get to Tarrytown and Manhattan from Nyack, lohud.com said. Stratford Stage Groups Asks Town Council To Reconsider Decision STRATFORD, Conn. — A lawyer for the Stratford Stage Groups sent a letter Friday to the Stratford town attorney asking to reconsider an earlier decision over negotiations to develop the closed American Shakespeare Theatre, according to the Connecticut Post. The Town Council voted in April to end negotiations with SSG due to new members being skeptical of votes made by previous council members, the Connecticut Post said. Mount Kisco Debating Creation Of Business Improvement District MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. — Mount Kisco Mayor Michael Cindrich announced that the village is debating the launch of a business improvement district (BID) in the area, according to The Examiner News. Stamford Police Close Road After Powder Scare At Man's Home STAMFORD, Conn. — Stamford police shut down a portion of a local road Sunday afternoon after a resident received a suspicious envelope from his estranged wife, according to the Stamford Advocate. Authorities were alerted and shut down a part of Myano Lane after the man reported his skin became irritated after touching the envelope, the Advocate said.
