Glen Rock Arboretum Sets Kickoff Fundraiser, Aims For $40K GLEN ROCK, N.J. -- The Friends of the Glen Rock Arboretum have already raised more than $85,000, but intensive fundraising is still needed, and the group is having a Thielke Arboretum 2016 Kickoff Event on Thursday, April 7. As reported in the Daily Voice in February, the Glen Rock Council voted down a $238,000 bridge loan that would have helped fund the Thielke Arboretum Education Center. FOGRAS estimates that an estimated $150,000 is still needed. The event will include drink tickets, appetizers, live music and door prizes. Glen Rock Mayor Bruce Packer is also scheduled to speak. Lodi Special-Needs Girl Scouts Learn Lessons About Water LODI, N.J. — Girl Scouts from the Felician School in Lodi learned about water with representatives from Suez Water, in Paramus. Suez, formerly United Water, went onsite at the school and gave a lesson about how people use water in their everyday lives. The girls made bracelets with beads that represented different topics concerning water. They also received information on water-saving tips. At the end of the program the girls were able to add another badge to their uniforms. The program is one of several Suez brings to classrooms and community groups about water. Upper Saddle River Fire Department Responds To Smell Of Smoke, Home OK'd UPPER SADDLE RIVER, N.J. -- The Upper Saddle River Fire Department was dispatched on Monday morning, March 21, to a home on Sunset Lane. The homeowner made the call, for a smell of smoke in the basement of the Sunset Lane home. Chief Vierheilig, Engine 1231 and Engine 1232 responded. While the crew of 1232 investigated, 1231 stood by at a nearby hydrant. No problem was discovered, when the home was thoroughly checked. Paterson Library Screens 'A Time For Burning' PATERSON, N.M. -- "A Time For Burning" will screen on Tuesday, March 22, at the Paterson Free Public Library. The documentary describes the efforts of Rev. L. William Youngdahl, a white Lutheran pastor in Omaha, Nebraska, to reach out to black Lutherans in the city. He ultimately failed, however, and resigned as minister of his church. The Library of Congress, in 2005, selected the film for preservation, as being "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant." "Greenwich and the state of Connecticut need citizens who are active and informed. The act of registering to vote is a signal that you care about your community," said Republican Registrar Fred DeCaro III.
