Catherine A. Savarese, 92, Saddle River Resident SADDLE RIVER, N.J. — Catherine A. Savarese (Nee McMorrow) of Saddle River died Dec. 8. She was 92. She was born in New York, NY and lived Eastchester, NY; Scarsdale, NY; Niskayuna, NY; Virginia Beach, VA; and Darien, CT, before moving to Saddle River 33 years ago. She was educated at St. Sebastian’s R.C. Grade School, Queens, NY; Bishop McDonald RC High School, Brooklyn, NY; and Hunter College, New York, NY. Wilton Brightens The Night With Menorah Lighting On First Night Of Hanukkah WILTON, CONN. — Over 100 people gathered for the annual Wilton Community Menorah lighting on Sunday, Dec. 5, the First Night of Hanukkah. Live music was played while traditional dreidels and chocolate gelt coins were distributed. The menorah lighting has become an annual tradition in Wilton. Town officials were on hand to help light the menorah, including First Selectman Lynne Vanderslice, Selectman Dave Clune and state Rep. Gail Lavielle, as well members of State Police Troop G. How Are You Lighting Your Holiday Decorations, Greenburgh? When the flip was switched at Rockefeller Center on Dec. 2, 45,000 LED lights illuminated the 78-foot Christmas tree set up the hub of Manhattan, statista.com reports. LED lights were introduced to New York City’s tree in 2007 and are powered by 300 solar panels installed on the roof of One Rockefeller Center. The tree now saves enough energy to power a 2,000-square-foot single-family home for a month, thrillist.com says. Alfred E. Mitchell, 87, Tenafly Resident TENAFLY, N.J. — Alfred E. Mitchell of Tenafly died Tuesday, Dec. 8. He was 87. He was a Navy veteran serving his country during WW II, and was employed at Public Service of Oradell. He was a lieutenant in the Bergenfield Alert Fire Co. 1, and in his retirement was an active member of Assumption R.C. Church in Emerson, prior to joining St. Therese of Lisieux R.C. Church. He was born in West New York, NJ and was a Navy veteran, where he learned the electrical trade. He then opened his own business, Tack Electric, in Dumont.
