MAHWAH, N.J. — A gallery talk about the Colonial and U.S. post offices in Mahwah takes place Sunday, Jan. 17 at the Mahwah Museum. Dick Greene and Carol Wehran Greene, author of “Images of Mahwah" and “The Ramapough Chronicles,” will present the talk “Mail on the Move in Northwest Bergen,” an exhibit currently featured at the museum. Carol Greene is also Mahwah Township Historian and a member of the Mahwah Historical Preservation Committee. Congregation Sues Clifton Over Reduction In Temple Size
CLIFTON, N.J. — A legal battle is being waged against the Clifton Planning Board for reducing the size of a new temple proposed in the the city, nj.com reports. Congregation Shomrei Torah proposed a 20,000-square foot religious center on Dwasline Road that the Planning Board reduced to a 7,000-square-foot temple, nj.com says. The Orthodox Jewish congregation had wanted to include a warming kitchen and ritual bath for women and had agreed to reduce the size to 12,000 feet, nj.com says. Curbside Leaf Collection In Glen Rock Continues Through Dec. 31
GLEN ROCK, N.J. — Leaf removal continues in Glen Rock, weather permitting, through Thursday, Dec. 31. Curbside leaf collection is done by voting districts and was begun by the Glen Rock Department of Public Works on Monday, Oct. 19, in Voting District 1. By Thursday, removal was complete through District 4 and began in District 5. While the DPW aims to get through one district per day, as more leaves fall and the piles get larger and heavier, this is not always possible. OSSINING, N.Y. — Programming, 3D printing and robotics were part of a recent coding event at Ossining High School. Students in the Game, App Design and Coding course helped out peers who were trying their hand at computer coding for the first time. The budding computer programmers were participating in the annual “Hour of Code” event at Ossining High School, whose goal is to get more students interested in computer science and technology careers. ELMWOOD PARK, N.J. — Students at St. Leo's School in Elmwood Park are actively participating with the Jesse Tree Services at the school. This is a tree, or a large banner with a symbolic tree, that is decorated each week, usually by the children, with ornaments or objects that represent biblical events from creation to the birth of Jesus. New Jersey firms that merge with overseas partners to dodge taxes would lose incentives and other state benefits under a measure passed by the state Assembly, reports NJ Spotlight.
