Westlake Middle School Shows Off Coding Skills MOUNT PLEASANT, N.Y. — Learning a new language, Westlake Middle School took part in the global “Hour of Code” that encourages people of every age to learn the language of coding. The week-long initiative, held this year from Dec. 7-11, was created in 2013 by the nonprofit code.org to expand participation in computer science. A&P Seeks Court Approval To Get Out Of Leases On 36 Closed Stores A&P is in the final stages of its bankruptcy and asked the court for permission to reject a number of real estate leases, reports Supermarket News. A&P wants to get out of 52 leases, including 36 on closed stores, said Supermarket News. They already filed to get out of their corporate office lease in Montvale, N.J., reports Supermarket News. Ho-Ho-Kus Elementary Students Get Cooking Lessons HO-HO-KUS, N.J. — An after-school cooking class for Ho-Ho-Kus Elementary School students takes place on Wednesday, Jan. 20, at Chef Central in Paramus. The class is open to children in grades 1-4 and is designed to teach basic cooking skills in an interactive setting. Class runs from 4-5:30 p.m. On the menu: sautéed chicken tenders with a lemon glaze and sautéed spinach with tomato concassé. Cost of the class is $25 and it is open to Ho-Ho-Kus Elementary School students only. Chef Central is at 240 Route 17 North, Paramus.

Edgewater Gives Parents A Break With Winter Fun Activities For Youngsters EDGEWATER, N.J. — A new field trip each day is offered to children during a December camp program over school break in Edgewater and Leonia. The three day program runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday, Dec. 28, through Wednesday, Dec. 30.  Participants will be divided into groups and supervised by recreation staff. The program will include trips to see the Harlem Globetrotters with a magic pass and Sahara Sam’s Indoor Water Park. This is for Leonia/Edgewater residents only. Santa Is Visiting East Rutherford On Saturday EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Santa is making a stop in East Rutherford on Saturday, Dec. 19. The East Rutherford Fire Department will escort Santa through the borough. Residents are asked to listen for the sirens all afternoon starting at 12 p.m. as Santa makes his way through the streets on the back of one of the trucks.
