Rockland CSX Rail Tracks Are Deemed Safe
ORANGETOWN, N.Y. — Federal track inspectors found no major defects on the CSX rail line used by oil trains through Rockland County. The Federal Railroad Administration inspectors last week looked at approximately 50 miles of track and five switches along the River Line between Orangeburg and Milton in Ulster County and found two non-critical defects, Gov. Andrew Cuomo's office said on Tuesday. Up to 30 trains, each a mile long, haul explosive crude oil travel through Rockland each week on their way to refineries to the south. Bard College Names Dorms For Students Killed By Drunk Driver In 2014
ANNANDALE-On-HUDSON, N.Y. – Bard College is naming two new residence halls after deceased students Evelina Martin Brown and Sarah Christina McCausland, lohud.com reports. The two girls were killed Jan. 31, 2014, by drunk driver Carol Boeck of Red Hook, who is serving 7 to 21 years in prison, the article said. Dover Man, 18, Charged With Driving While Impaired By Drugs
DOVER, N.Y. — Robert D. Svrcek, 18, was arrested for driving under the influence of marijuana, police said. New York State Police from the Dover Plains barracks said Svrcek, of Dover, was driving on Wheeler Road when he was stopped for a vehicle and traffic infraction. A State Police Drug Recognition Expert reported Svrcek was impaired by drugs. He was released on summonses pending a court appearance.

Sean Patrick Maloney (D-18th District) urged Congress to provide more resources to first responders who combat fires and spills of any flammable liquids from train accidents. State Comptroller Affirms Rockland's Proposed 2016 Budget
CLARKSTOWN, N.Y. — New York State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli’s review of Rockland County's budget for the 2016 fiscal year found revenue and expenditure projections reasonable, Rockland County announced. In accordance with the comptroller's recommendations, Rockland County Executive Ed Day said it will be his policy to reduce the audited year-end General Fund unreserved deficit fund balance each year by a minimum of 10 percent. Mount Vernon Shows Off Youth Talent On Sunday
MOUNT VERNON, N.Y.— An all-city youth talent showcase takes place at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Rev. Shelton E. Doles Community Theatre.
