Former Rye Mayor Edmund C. Grainger Jr. Dies At 92
RYE, N.Y. -- Former Rye Mayor Edmund Grainger of Rye, died Sunday, Oct. 18. He was 92. He had a distinguished career in law, government, philanthropy and community service. He was managing partner of his law firm in New York City and served as chairman of Village Bank from 1980-89. He was president of several charitable foundations. His government service included special assistant to the Attorney General of the United States' Tax Division from 1953-55. Veterans Earn One Final Salute At Danbury's Regional Hospice And Home Care
DANBURY, Conn. -- As two top-ranking Veterans Affairs officials toured the Regional Hospice and Home Care Center in Danbury recently, a dying patient struggled to offer a salute as he received the honor of an Armed Forces Challenge Medallion. Norma Gantz Sachs, 90, Of New Rochelle
NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Norma Gantz Sachs, of New Rochelle, died Oct. 18. She was 90. She was predeceased by her husband Monroe. She is survived by her children David and Robert and daughters-in-law Linda Shackelford and Caroline Taggart, plus many nieces and a nephew. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Westchester Reform Temple, 255 Mamaroneck Road, Scarsdale. Interment following the service. Nyack Woman Could Face Up To 25 Years In Prison
CLARKSTOWN, N.Y. – Janice White, 41, of Nyack, faces up to 25 years in prison for slashing a 60-year-old man in 2014, lohud.com reports. A jury convicted her last week, lohud.com says, and she will sentenced on Jan. 5. White remains at the Rockland County jail, where she was taken after the attack and is being held on $50,000 bail. Clifton Teen Charged In Fatal Shooting At Liquor Store
CLIFTON, N.J. – A teenager was arrested in the death of Leandro Mendoza, 21, who was killed while closing Lexington Liquors in Clifton, on Friday, nj.com reported. According to the article, a 17-year-old Clifton youth, whose identity hasn't been released due to his age, was arrested Sunday morning and charged with shooting Mendoza, who was shot by a masked gunman around 2 a.m.. DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. – Of the 18 supervisor spots open in Dutchess County, eight incumbents are running unopposed, poughkeepsiejournal.com reports. Plans For Saddle Brook Tricentennial Celebration Have Begun
SADDLE BROOK, N.J. – Saddle Brook will mark the 300th anniversary of the township in 2016. Saddle Brook Mayor Robert White appointed Saddle Brook Police Chief Robert Kugler as the chairperson for the 300th Anniversary Committee, which will oversee celebration plans and activities. An initial meeting took place in September at Town Hall with Township Historian Jack Wasdyke. About 20 people signed on as committee members and many ideas were exchanged.
