Rutherford Residents Can Detect Blood Trouble With Screening
RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- The Rutherford Health Department will sponsor a multi-phasic blood screening program for adult residents on Oct. 23 and 24. The screenings will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days at the Health Center, 184 Park Ave. There will be a charge of $21 per person. For an additional fee, other testing can be added: T4/TSH (two thyroid tests) $27, Vitamin D level $22, Hemoglobin A1-C $15. Pancake Breakfast, Open House At Vista Fire Department
LEWISBORO, N.Y. – A pancake breakfast takes place from 8-11 a.m. Saturday Oct.10 at the Vista Firehouse, 377 Smith Ridge Road. The cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children 8 and younger. All proceeds benefit the Vista Volunteer Fire Department. The fire department also is having an open house and recruitment the same day, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. People can learn how they can help the community and become a volunteer firefighter, EMT, ambulance driver or fire truck driver. Man Ousted From Bergen County Freeholder Meeting
HACKENSACK, N.J. – The Bergen County Board of Freeholders removed a man from Wednesday’s meeting after he tried to play a video about a Teaneck doctor accused of sexual misconduct, northjersey.com reports. In the video, which was on Youtube that day, a woman identifies herself as an alleged victim of Dr. Gangaram Ragi, who entered a pre-trial Intervention program, thereby avoiding prosecution, northjersey.com said. Brewster Man Pulled Over For Not Wearing Seatbelt Charged With DWI
BREWSTER, N. Y. -- Raymond L. Pellecchia, 48, was arrested by New York State Police, on Sept. 26, for aggravated driving while intoxicated on Main Street. He also was cited for not wearing his seat belt. Pellecchia was released on summonses pending an October court appearance.

OSSINING, N.Y. -- The Ossining Chamber of Commerce recently held a meet and greet for members hosted by the Mike and Miriam Risko at Mike Risko Music. About a dozen local business people and entrepreneurs showed up to network and socialize with other local friends. John Girolamo (Johnny G the DJ) and chamber President Gayle Marchica (Eduscape Associates) organized the event and guests were treated to snacks provided by Mike Risko Music. Exercise Caution When Hiring Caregiver, Westchester DA Alerts Residents
WESTCHESTER, N.Y. – Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore is issuing a community alert to notify senior citizens to be cautious when it comes to hiring caregivers. DiFiore advises that financial elder abuse is on the rise. “A caregiver can be a ‘Thief in Disguise’ and the elderly are often taken advantage of by the very people hired to care for them.” She notes most are dedicated to helping their clients, but some use these jobs to take advantage of clients. Elmwood Park Teachers Protest; Working Without Contract
ELMWOOD PARK, N.J. -- Members of the Elmwood Park Education Association recently organized outside the board of education to protest an ongoing two-year pay freeze with no settled contract, according to northjersey.com More than 50 teachers and other union members employed by the Elmwood Park School District marched along East 53rd Street holding signs that read: "No Contract, Still Working, Always Caring." DARIEN, Conn. – The Geary Gallery of Darien is presenting “Of Light and the Sea” featuring the marine and seascape paintings of longtime Greenwich resident and Darien native Peter Arguimbau.
