Rockland County DA Thomas Zugibe Named State Association Head
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — Rockland County’s Thomas Zugibe will become head of the state District Attorneys Association sooner than anticipated, democratandchronicle.com reports. Broome District Attorney Gerald Mollen was scheduled to remain president through July 2016. After absentee and affidavit ballots were counted Tuesday, Republican challenger Stephen Cornwall led Mollen 20,630 to 20,121, the article says. Mollen is now out of the office he’s held since 1987. Gay couples accounted for 10 percent of summer weddings in 2015, and New York resident Edith Windsor, 86, was recalled in several reports and polls for her critical role, according to Market Watch. The ruling in Windsor's case overturned the Defense of Marriage Act, the article said. In the 2013 case, “spouse” was redefined to include gay partners, changing the way they were legally treated. Clarkstown's Schools Show Off Bright Colors For Charities
CLAKSTOWN, N.Y. — The hallways of Birchwood School, Felix Festa Middle School and Clarkstown North and Clarkstown South high schools, glowed pink on Friday as students and staff wore lots of the bright color to show their support for breast cancer awareness and other charities. Over the past month, students at each school sold pink and gray shirts, socks, wristbands and shoelaces in an effort to raise money for a number of charities, including Warming Hearts of Rockland, United Hospice of Rockland, and the American Cancer Society.
