Kids Karate Program Kicks Off At Ridgewood YMCA
RIDGEWOOD, N.J. -- Kick off a new routine at the Ridgewood Y, with youth karate on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The Y welcomes youngsters of all skill levels and abilities for structured sessions with instructors that focus on teamwork, mutual respect and patience -- and not combat or self-defense. Trunk Or Treat Coming To Lodi Boys And Girls Club
LODI, N.J. – A Trunk or Treat takes places from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Oct. 30 at the Boys and Girls Club of Lod.Adults line up their cars with decorated trunks and pass out treats to children. The event is sponsored by the Lodi Recreation and the Boys and Girls Club of Lodi. Cars can arrive at 3 p.m. for setup. Black Bear Passing Through Keeps Ramsey Schoolchildren Inside
RAMSEY — Hubbard Elementary School students in Ramsey were kept in side Friday morning while authorities waited for a black bear spotted in the area to move on. Bear activity has increased in the area. Over the past two months, authorities have captured and killed five bears that they said were following hikers in the Ramapo Valley Reservation and the Ramapo Mountain State Forest. Officials eventually reopened the trails after several weeks.

Hackensack Dedicates Street In Honor Of Mt. Olive's Rev. Coleman
HACKENSACK, N.J. – The unveiling of a commemorative street sign erected in honor of Rev. Dr. James P. Coleman takes place at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 25 at the corner of Central and 2nd streets in Hackensack. Coleman, who died in 1982 at the age of 52, led his congregation from the old Mount Olive Baptist Church, on James Street, to its current location on Central Avenue. Followers said he worked to improve the quality of lives in the church, the community, the nation and the world. Councilwoman Seeks To Unseat Bergenfield Mayor
BERGENFIELD, N.J. — Mayor Norman Schmelz seeks reelection against two-term councilwoman Ora Kornbluth, who seeks to become the town's first woman mayor, northjersey.com reports. Get Ready For Family Fun Day With Dumont Elks
DUMONT, N.J.-- A Family Fun Day takes place from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1 at the Dumont Elks Lodge, 15 American Legion Terrace. The suggested donation is $10 a person. Ages 3-6 are $5 while children younger than 3 are free. Maximum charge is $35 per family. Live music will be by Jam Straight. There also will be face painting, popcorn, hot dogs and more.

Molly Friend, 27, Of New Rochelle
NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- Molly Rose Friend, of New Rochelle, died Oct. 21. She was 27. A teacher at White Plains United Pre-School and a Hofstra graduate, she was getting her master's in education/special-education at Manhattanville. She is survived by her mother, Nancy Paulsen, father, David Friend, and twin brother, Sam. A memorial service is planned at noon Sunday at the home of Michael and Joann Rooney, 159 Kensington Oval, New Rochelle. A private funeral is set for Monday.
