NPR Film Critic Peter Rainer of Eastchester Chats in Scarsdale
SCARSDALE, N.Y. -- Film critic Peter Rainer will give a talk at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Scarsdale Library, 4 Olmsted Road, Scarsdale. Rainer, an Eastchester resident, is the film critic for The Christian Science Monitor, the president of the National Society of Film Critics, and a regular reviewer for FilmWeek on NPR. He was a finalist in 1998 for the Pulitzer Prize in Criticism. ENGLEWOOD, N.J. -- Hackensack resident Erika Bourque returns to the New Jersey Association of Verismo Opera's stage to perform in Gaetano Donizett's Lucia di Lammermoor. Bourque, a mezzo-soprano, will play the role of Alisa on Sunday, Oct. 18 at 3 p.m. in the company’s new production at the Bergen Performing Arts Center (bergenPAC), 30 North Van Brunt St., Englewood. Wyckoff Schools Compete for $1,000 In 5K
WYCKOFF, N.J. -- The Wyckoff Education Foundation’s (WEF) annual 5K Run and 1 Mile Family Walk will be held on Saturday, Oct. 17 at Eisenhower Middle School in Wyckoff. The schedule: On site registration opens at 8:30 a.m. Carnival and 5K Race begins at 10 a.m. Family 1 Mile Walk or Run begins at 11 a.m. Following the races is the Family Fun Zone (all runners and walkers ridge and play free). There is a single prize for the top registering schools between K-8. Eligibility is for enrolled students who participate in the Annual 5K Run/Walk event. Burger King's Black Halloween Whopper Bun Causing Fuss On Internet
Black buns are on the menu at Burger King, all in the name of Halloween fun, says the washingtonpost.com and the dailymirror. But there’s a side effect being reported all over the Internet: The black bun is causig people’s bowel movements to turn green, "a comical, cartoon green,” someone Tweeted. According to the Daily Mail, a Burger King spokesman said the black bun is colored with less then 1 percent dye, and A-1 sauce. In Japan, it swaps out A-1 for squid ink. Mohegan Lake Woman Charged With DWI, Leaving The Scene
YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. -- Maria Varone of Mohegan Lake was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to maintain lane and failing to signal a turn, police said. She also was reportedly driving on a suspended license. According to reports, on Sunday, Oct. 4 at about 10:21 p.m., Yorktown Police were dispatched to a car leaving the scene of property damage following an automobile accident at the Courtesy Mobil located at 1 770 East Main Street. Varone was taken into custody and released on summonses pending a court appearance.
